Message from the CACNS Immediate Past President

As 2024 ends, my presidency for CACNS also concludes. It’s been my honor to serve our organization and represent it among the other Advance Practice Registered Nurses through the APRN Coalition. I’m fulfilled to have been a role model of the CNS to many and have provided mentorship to many of our leaders and novices.

I’m energized to see the future with you as we seek full practice authority and partner with our national organization, NACNS, to promote the work of one of America’s largest state affiliates. I will strive in 2025 to serve as a business-minded entrepreneurial CNS to strengthen our organization financially.

I value the friendships, the collegial relationships, and the personal growth I’ve experienced by knowing all of you. I wish you prosperity, success, and professional growth in 2025. I’m proud of our leaders, those who have stepped up to challenges and volunteered their time for the betterment of Clinical Nurse Specialists who practice in California.

Message from the CACNS Incoming President

As I assume the role of President, I do so with a strong sense of purpose and a clear vision for our organization. I am eager to collaborate with the dedicated leaders on the CACNS board and remain committed to being accessible to those who generously invest their time in supporting our mission. Our success relies on the commitment of every board member and each of you. Thank you for your steadfast dedication to ensuring that our role is recognized by administrators and staff.

In 2025, our focus will include:

  • Posting all meetings on the website for transparency
  • Updating our bylaws
  • Advancing toward achieving full practice authority
  • With the assistance of the Education Committee, increase education for California CNSs
  • Strengthening connections with our California CNS colleagues and students
  • Actively planning for succession, ensuring the continued support of CNSs in California

I am thrilled to begin my term as President of CACNS and look forward to working closely with our President-Elect, Olena Svetlov. I hope to see you at the NACNS Annual Conference in Boston, March 10-13, 2025.

Mary Lawanson-Nichols, MSN, CNS, NP, CCRN, FCNS
